Today was my first day back at Academic Antics, and this time I have classes on Mondays and on Fridays. Today, my classes were Art Through Jewelry, Art: Printmaking and Bookbinding, Theater and Art C. Today, Art Through Jewelry was my first class. We made these little flower barrette things out of bobby pins and ribbons. But first, we learned about Monet. He was very interested in painting flowers, so that’s where we got the idea. We first took green ribbon and cut big diamonds out of them. When we finished cutting the diamonds out, we glued them to the bobby pins. Once the gluing was finished, and the glue was drying, we prepared the little flowers to go on top of the leaves. We got a 5 inch piece of colorful ribbon, in my case a magenta-ish purple ribbon, and we cut little notches in the ribbon. We then rolled the ribbon into a little cup-shaped flower, and sewed it onto the bobby pin. It took me forever to sew it on, especially since I kept accidentally stabbing myself with the needle. After a while, the flower fell off, so I gave up. Also, I had to leave to walk to the next class, so the class ended.
For Art: Printmaking and Book Binding, we started making prints with different objects. We started with leaves and acrylic paints. We poured out the different colors we wanted, wet the brushes and started painting on the veiny side of the leaf. When I pressed down on my fully painted leaf, I got a very cool print that looked like leaves and branches of a tree. When I realized what the print looked like, I grabbed some brown paint and made a trunk. I then took a brush and wet it. When I let the brush drip a little, I faded the brown paint with the water, letting it get lighter as it reached the edges, and were the leaf veins were really close to each other. Once the paint dried a very little bit, I put some sea salt on the “tree trunk” and let it dry fully before brushing the salt off. It looked really good. When we finished with the leaf prints, it was time to go to the next area for lunch, so we left the paintings with the teacher and went to the next house.
Lunch was hectic. Per usual, people were running around, screaming, and eating (duh). It was great to hang out with my friends while being crazy.
Theater was great. We talked about who we were and what we wanted to work on in the class. The majority of what people wanted to work on was stage fright, and I was one of the people who wanted to work on it, because whenever I act in front of people, I randomly crack up. Once we went through the circle and discussed everything, we went on an imaginary tour of everybody’s houses. I did okay on mine, but I kind of didn’t act all that well. Oh well, that’s why I’m here – to learn how to act properly! Mom, Dad, watch out!
Art C is a class about colors, so we did a pastel version of the color wheel. We had the primary colors, secondary colors, tertiary colors and browns. There were only two rules, don’t blow the pastel dust and don’t make too big of a mess. Well, we did both. Whenever the teacher turned her back, a couple of people would blow pastel dust at each other. Also, by the end of the class, the garage was a HUGE mess. Thank goodness pastels wash off of stuff easily! During the class, a bunch of people got confused about how to make the browns and/or the tertiary colors, so the teacher gave the instructions for how to blend the colors, like, ten times. It was crazy! When we finished the wheel, the teacher sprayed the piece of paper with hair spray to make the pastel set. When the color wheel was done, we had free time to do whatever with pastels. I ended up drawing different tattoos that I found interesting. One was a graffiti like “BMX” that I had to hide from my friend because I bet you anything he would’ve asked me to give him that “tattoo”. It was a really fun class.
In conclusion, I think Mondays are my artsy days, because I have three art classes. Hmmm… Coincidence?
