This week in Art through Jewelry, we worked with beads. The teacher handed out strands of pearls, cases of beads, some elastic-type string, and needles. We threaded the needle with the elastic string, and slid one pearl onto the string, slid it down to the bottom of the string and tied the pearl to the string. I then started stringing a pattern of off-white and green pearls so I can make a bracelet. I worked on the bracelet until class was over, and by then it was finished (see picture).
I got a surprise when I went to my next class, Art: Printmaking and Bookbinding. Everyone dropped the class except me, so the teacher told me it’s probably going to be cancelled. The teacher had class anyway and I worked on a print to make for my first piece of art. I decided to do the “God-send” symbol from Heroes. I sketched out the design for the “God-send” symbol, cut it out, and glued it onto another piece of paper. I then rolled out the ink and rolled it over my print plate. It turned out really pretty (see picture below). After I finished the print plate, did a couple prints, and cleaned up, it was time to go to the next class… and lunch. After lunch, I went to theater class.
Theater was AWESOME!!! We did improv performances, and it was so fun! Improv is short for improvisation and means the act or art of improvising. Improvising means to compose, recite, play, or sing extemporaneously. Mom is adding “extemporaneously” to my next vocabulary list so I will look up that word then. First, my partner, Madison, and I did a scenario where Madison and I were Valley Girls and we were shopping. Lets just say we aced it, okay? We had so much fun pretending we were shopping and being silly. After everyone else performed, there was enough time left in the class period for everyone to have another turn. This time, our skit was a conversation between mother (me) and daughter (Kristin) about why her grades were slipping. I tot channeled my Mom and sighed and asked questions and scolded and made a plan of attack and all that stuff my Mom does to me. After our second round, we finished the class by Dave, the teacher, doing an improv skit himself. It was a good way to round out the class.
Art C was a great class, too. We worked with the color wheel more, but this time we used markers. There was a big mess, because the markers bled through the paper. We divided the paper into four sections, chose a subject that was mostly one color, and color it in. Then, the first box should be the color’s complementary color, and other colors from the color wheel can be used to color around your object of choice. I drew a pumpkin, colored it orange, and the surrounding colors I choose were blue, green, red and purple. It looked really cool and is a good way to learn about colors and blending to make new colors.
