It was great to be back from my cruise and see my friends again. Today in Art through Jewelry, we painted our own beads. We gathered acrylic paint, plastic knives, shell beads and a Styrofoam plate and began working. I poured dark blue, forest green and red paint onto my plate and rearranged my beads so that I could paint them without making a mess. I dipped the blade of the knife into the paint and dragged the paint through the air over the beads to make a splattered effect. When the beads were done I let them dry and gathered other, smaller beads to go on the bracelet I am planning to make. Unfortunately, my beads didn’t dry in time, so I had to put them with the other people’s beads to dry. Class was over quickly, so I headed to Utica for my next class.
Art: Printmaking and Bookbinding was fun. We received acrylic plastic sheets and started to roll out different colored inks. When the ink was smooth, we all got different “plates”. My “plate” was bubble wrap. I rolled black on first, printed it on white paper, mixed white into my black, rolled the grey over the black, printed it, then mixed red into the grey mix. It turned blackish-purple, so that was my final print. I then mixed random colors and just rubbed the color into the paper. It turned out to be really cool! I finished quickly, so I cleaned up my area and it took FOREVER to clean up the acrylic sheets, so I cleaned up until class was over.
Theater was challenging today. Dave handed out random scripts that he downloaded and printed from an audition site and arranged us kids into pairs. First, I got paired with Jordan W. to do a brother and sister scene where they argue over why the brother won’t tell the sister about something that happened. The brother gets grounded because he got into a fight, and the sister was nosy and bothered the brother until he told her what happened which had something to do with something that happened to the sister. I could not quite figure out what happened to the sister so it was really hard to get into character. I also had to memorize my lines for this scene which was difficult and hopefully I did a good job. Next, I got paired with Orion to do a dialogue between a “witch” and someone who wanted to work for her. I felt a little weird being in that skit because the witch’s nickname was the Pig Lady and that name kind of made me a little upset because it’s a rude name. While everyone else was reading through their scripts, the other people who weren’t reading scripts at that moment watched how the people acted while reading their lines. It was fun and challenging at the same time.
Because I was out last week, I had a two-week assignment due for Art C at the end of the hour. The assignment was to draw an animal in the center of a paper, draw lines through it and around it, and use warm colors inside the animal and cool colors outside the animal. I drew a duck, and colored it using oil pastels. I colored the drawing as quickly as I could so that I could finish it in time. I ended up taking up the entire class to do it because there were so many little areas to color.
