Today in Art through Jewelry, we received the beads we painted last week so we could make a necklace or a bracelet. I decided not to use the other beads that I picked out last week, so I got enough elastic string to make myself a bracelet. I grabbed a needle and threaded the elastic, and tied a knot at the bottom of the elastic string to make sure the beads wouldn’t fall off the string. I poked the needle through the holes in the beads to make sure that there was no paint in the beads’ holes. I strung a total of seven beads, four full circle beads and three disk beads, in a circle, disk, circle pattern. When I finished the bracelet, I tied off the end, tied the bracelet’s ends together tightly and put it on. It looked really cool because of the splattered effect in the paint. It took the entire class, because the elastic string was really thick, so it took a while to pull the bead all the way down the thread to where the last bead was. It was really fun to make a really cool bracelet for myself.
For Art: Printmaking and Bookbinding, we made different prints by cutting a shape out of foam and designing it. I made a really cool peace sign with lines going through and around the piece sign, and I inked it with an orange color and printed it until the dye started to rub off or dry. Then, I mixed some black, yellow and blue into my orange mix, and inked my print plate again. I again printed it until the ink rubbed off. There was a slight overlap between the blackish mix and the orange mix, so it had some gradation of the colors. I added a lot of red to the mixture, and the ink turned a magenta color, and I rolled the ink onto my hand. I pressed my hand firmly over my peace sign prints and pulled my hand off the sheet of paper. I then mixed in more blue, and the ink turned a dark purple color, and I repeated the hand print with the purple ink. I then mixed black and white ink into the mixture so I could make a grey color. It was a gunmetal grey when I finished mixing, so I rolled the grey over my hand and printed it. The final result looked really cool. I then washed my hands, my acrylic sheet and my brayer so I could mix some more colors.
Then, I made another, darker version of the magenta I made earlier and I took a pencil’s eraser and drew music notes into the ink on my brayer. I rolled the music note ink onto a new sheet of paper and it looked really awesome! All of the notes were visible, not blurry at all, and they were in a curved row so that it looked like there were multiple music rows. For the last five minutes of class before clean-up, I sprayed some of the ink off of my brayer over a sheet of paper, and the ink dripped off the brayer onto the paper. I moved the brayer around over the piece of paper so it had a random splattered effect, and the final result was really cool. It kind of looked like a statistics chart in magenta, though. Then, it was time to clean up, so class was over.
Theater was good. Each pair practiced their scripts some more, and Jordan and I had to redo the brother/sister scene four times until Dave said that we were on the right track and I was told to work on being more annoying and Jordan was told to work on getting into the character more. Everyone else went, and Dave critiqued how they acted and what they said. After everyone went and got feedback on their performance, Dave told us to work on memorizing our scripts for homework, and class was officially over.
Art C was slightly different than the last couple weeks. Today we worked with watercolors, so we had put plastic over the tables so we didn’t get paint on them. We first got handed pictures of houses and were told by Stephanie to pick one to draw. The instructions were to draw the house twice, once to paint black and white, and the other to paint in colors the next week. I drew the first copy of the house, then laid another piece of paper over it so that I could trace my lines from the previous drawing to make both identical. I did, and in record time. I started to paint the black and white copy, but it was later than I thought, and I didn’t get a chance to finish. However, the teacher said that we could work on both next week.
Mondays at Academic Antics are very fun and I enjoy my classes immensely.
